Balancing a Checkbook/Checking Account

Why is it important to balance your checkbook/checking account?

  • To protect yourself against fraud.
    • You may not notice small charges on your account until it is too late! These can add up!
  • To avoid overdraft fees.
    • Some financial institutions can charge $30 or more per incident!
  • To avoid overspending.
    • Online banking is not real-time! Sometimes when you use your debit card or make a payment, it doesn’t come out of your account right away.
  • To be a conscientious consumer and live within ones means.
  • To verify purchases and debits.
    • Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes!

It’s your hard earned money!  Spend it wisely!
